Chef Judith
Able was born in KingstonJamaica and spent her early
childhood on the coastal parish of Portmore with her parents and six siblings. A
large family that loved to eat and with the sea as their provider the family
ate well with lots of variety.
After
graduating high school, Judith transitioned her love of social gatherings into
a full time event promoter.As her
promotion business prospered, Judith, wanting to dabble in food service opened
a restaurant and night club in downtown KingstonJamaica.
Judith came to
the United States
in 1986 to broaden her experiences food and entertainment.She began honing her skills by working at
several entertainment venues through out New
York. Realizing that many of her culinary heroes
attended culinary academies, Judith decided to embark upon her dream by
enrolling in New York City Technical College School of Hospitality Management program where she
received an associate degree.
Judith
continued her academic journey in the culinary arts by moving to BaltimoreMaryland and
attending BaltimoreInternationalCollege
where she was introduced to competition and studying abroad.Rounding out her academia, Judith enrolled in
the Miami campus of Johnson and WalesUniversity
where she received Bachelor in Culinary Arts and a Bachelor in Food Service
Management both with honors. Culinary Career: Judith’s love
of food and entertaining grew from watching her mother prepare elaborate meals
for a family of nine. At a very young age, Judith began assuming the mantle as
family cook and her skills in the kitchen were fortified.
Jamaica is a country rich in tradition and an amalgam of
cultures and Judith has successfully cultivated and used these flavor palates
in all her appointments.Selecting Florida as her base of operations, Judith settled in BrowardCounty
where she worked as the Executive Sous Chef for The Chefs Table, a well known
catering organization in Fort
Lauderdale.
Transitioning
from The Chefs Table, Judith accepted a position as the Executive Chef of
Corporate Catering at The Fifth night club in SouthBeach.
At the Fifth, Judith prepared menus for an array of clientele from Sports
Illustrated to Telemudo.
Currently,
Judith is under contract as the Executive Chef at one of Miami's premier restaurants, Seecomar’s located in the renowned Karu & Y night club.In addition to her restaurant duties, Judith
is also the Executive Catering Chef for Karu and she works intimately with the
in house and external event planners. All this while still running the Chef of
Distinction.
